Hotel Alpina - Zermatt

Budget-friendly 2-star hotel in central Zermatt with a historic 1903 building and a rare original railroad cab

History & Character

Hotel Alpina occupies a traditional building dating from 1903, located in a quiet area of Zermatt's centre. Inside, one of only three original train cabs from the old railroad is on display, a piece of local history visible to guests. The hotel maintains its Alpine character with all-wood interiors and a small elevator that stops between floors.

Rooms & Amenities

Rooms at Hotel Alpina Zermatt are furnished in traditional Alpine style and include a safe and cable TV. The hotel offers family rooms, non-smoking rooms, and a ski storage room for equipment. A small elevator is available, though guests may need to carry luggage up or down stairs as the lift stops between floors.

Location & Access

The hotel is a 2-minute walk from Zermatt's main street and a 6-7 minute walk from the train station. Gornergratbahn Railway Station is 500 metres away, and the bus stop for the Sunnegga funicular is close by. The central location puts shops, restaurants, and the Parish Church within easy walking distance.

Breakfast is served at the adjacent Hotel Tannenhof and offers a continental spread with no hot food option. Guests can also request hot water for tea or coffee from the staff. The breakfast room provides a mountain view, with the sunrise touching the peaks of Zermatt.
